It’s time to break down the basics and help guide you! At Pur Aesthetics and Wellness in Granger, IN, we ALWAYS want our clients to feel informed and in control of their treatment options!
What is a Lip Flip?
A lip flip is a cosmetic procedure that involves injecting a small amount of botulinum toxin into the upper lip muscles to create the appearance of a fuller upper lip. Remember, tox injections temporarily block nerve signals that cause muscle contractions.
The targeted muscles become temporarily relaxed, which can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines caused by repetitive facial expressions. In the case of a lip flip, the orbicularis oris muscles are targeted.
We want to point out that the lip flip procedure isn’t for everyone. Candidates for lip flips are those people who have an anatomy that rolls the upper lip under when they smile. If you’re a candidate and desires a subtle enhancement to their lips this is a perfect match!
The lip flip adds that fullness to the top lip without adding volume. We use injections to flip the top lip outward slightly and create the illusion of a fuller pout. The procedure takes only a few minutes to complete. You’ll come to the office, and the first step is to speak with your injector about previous injections and current goals. Our injectors will work with you to make the best plan because we want you to LOVE your results!
It’s important to remember that tox injections take a week or two to kick in. As with any tox injections, you might see results in a week, but it could take up to 2 weeks to see peak results. This means your lip flip results aren’t instant.
How Long Does a Lip Flip Last?
If you only want to add fullness to your upper lip, you might love a lip flip. The effects last 6-8 weeks. We use between 4 and 6 units of tox for a lip flip. Remember: everyone’s musculature is different, so yours might vary!
What is Lip Filler?
Lip filler is a cosmetic procedure in which a gel-like substance is injected into the lips to increase their volume, improve their shape, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth.
The most common type of filler used is hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body and is responsible for keeping the skin hydrated and plump. When you come in for your appointment, you’ll discuss prior injectables, your budget, goals, and lip filler options. Then we complete the injections. The entire appointment usually takes around 30 minutes. The results are immediate, so you’ll already have volume when you leave the office!
There are a few brand options for fillers. We will walk you through the options for brands and discuss how much volume you might want to add. At Pur Aesthetics and Wellness, we always want natural results, so we will never recommend an amount that will leave you looking plastic-ky or like a duck! We pride ourselves on natural results that help you feel your best!
How Long Does Lip Filler Last?
When you come into our office for lip filler, you’ll leave with noticeable results! One great thing about lip filler is the effects are immediate, and the results tend to last longer than with lip flip. Lip fillers last six months to a year, depending on the type and brand of filler used and individual factors.
Lip Filler vs Lip Flip:
It’s essential to think about your problem areas and what you want the end result to be. For instance, if you have a number of wrinkles around your lips, think lip filler. We often hear people discussing “lip lines,” which are vertical creases in your lips and often into the skin above your lips.
While these are sometimes attributed to smokers, these lines happen to all of us eventually! The loss of collagen and elastin combined with thin skin results in lines. If you wear lipstick, these wrinkles can look more pronounced.
Lip filler can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth by adding volume to the lips, which can stretch out the skin around the mouth and smooth out wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid, commonly used as a lip filler, can also help hydrate the skin and improve its texture.
We LOVE lip filler for hydration! Our clients can’t get over how much less chapstick they use once they’ve gotten lip filler! That’s because the main ingredient in the filler is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid LOVES water! Think hydration that can’t be matched!
If you’re worried about a gummy smile…you need to think about a lip flip! While a lip flip can also help reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the mouth, its primary function is to enhance the appearance of the upper lip by rolling it slightly outward. So, a lip flip may be more suitable for someone who wants to enhance their upper lip without adding volume or has concerns about a gummy smile.
One other consideration is cost. Lip flip is much less expensive (as of June 2023 a lip flip is $150). Getting lip filler injections tends to be a more considerable cost, but also with more noticeable results and results that last longer.
Can I get a Lip Flip & Lip Filler at the Same Time?
Short answer: YES! We have clients who want the benefits of both treatments! Who can blame them? The same points we’ve reviewed above are still valid: like how long each service lasts. This means that if you get a lip flip and receive lip filler, the “flip” portion will still only last around 3 months.
Think about adding one or both of these treatments when you come in for tox!
